Task

Create a web-based Moving App for the European market that lets private individuals plan an entire household move online — from inventory creation to instant, transparent price confirmation, without phone calls.

Problem

"I have no idea how much space my stuff takes or what the final price will be." — Interviewee

Households spend days emailing inventories and waiting for budget estimates. Movers receive incomplete lists that blow up on moving day. The industry needed a shared, transparent workspace that lets customers build an accurate inventory in minutes, shows live cost and logistics estimates, and prevents last-minute surprise items.

Discovery

  • Awareness: Customers can't find transparent pricing — hidden fees everywhere
  • Exploration: Information often only available by phone
  • Planning: Users unable to estimate number of vans and movers needed
  • Booking: Fear of extra charges at confirmation
  • Execution: Missing or oversized items discovered on moving day

Solution

Three core design principles: Progressive effort — ask for the bare minimum first, details later. Constant feedback — weight, loaders, and price recalculate in real time. Respect the mental model — rooms > items > quantities, just like packing.

  • Search & Add items: Covers 90% of cases without typing dimensions
  • Categorised tabs: Mirrors how people think about their home
  • Inline +/- counters: Ultra-fast quantity tweaks
  • Summary panel: Zero-scroll access to weight, vans, loaders, and cost
  • Real-time logistics engine: Converts total m³ + kg into van type and crew size

Roadmap v1.1

  • AI-powered item recognition: Snap room photos, auto-populate list
  • Ready-made templates: '2-bed flat', 'Studio', etc. to cut setup time
  • Exception handling banner: Flag hazardous or oversized items early
